LIUDAS MOCKŪNAS /
PETRAS GENIUŠAS
In their second album Mockūnas and Geniušas venture, once again, into the world of classical music by deconstructing and constructing anew some of their favorite pieces. It is like a romance between composed and improvised music, or between the so-called ‘art’ music and ‘jazz’. Among the composers they chose Béla Bartók, Alexander Scriabin, Bronius Kutavičius, Liudas Mockūnas and Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The duo interprets their works and improvises around them, walking both trodden and yet undiscovered paths. At certain moments in this album you can also catch a glimpse of McCoy Tyner whose sound world inevitably echoes that of John Coltrane. These two, like all other sounding musicians and composers on this album, have flown or are still flying towards the flame of creation. Vers la flame.
