The “Jazz Brunch” event, which has already become a tradition of the Lithuanian Jazz Union and the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO, will combine two memorable occasions - the International Jazz Day and the 150th anniversary of the birth of M. K. Čiurlionis, which is being celebrated jointly with UNESCO.
The only open and free presentation of the project “Following Čiurlionis” in Vilnius will take place on 30 April (Wednesday) 11.45-12.45 in the courtyard of the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, by the monument of the most famous Lithuanian artist.
The programme will feature preludes for piano by M. K. Čiurlionis, arranged and performed by saxophonist Jan Maksimovič and pianist Dmitrij Golovanov. This is an interpretation of Čiurlionis music by well-known Lithuanian jazz masters, a unique dialogue between classical music and contemporary jazz.
Both jazz musicians are prominent and active participants in cultural life, meritorious and active educators, with an exceptional attitude and commitment to the art of music. This duo, who have developed an almost telepathic relationship, transforms the music of M. K. Čiurlionis by translating it into improvisational jazz music forms.
The interpretation of the preludes in “After Čiurlionis” rejects jazz stereotypes and uses authentic elements of M. K. Čiurlionis' music, harmony and musical language.
In the open school courtyard, the concert audience will be able to enjoy not only jazz music, but also spring, to rise above everyday life for a short while.
Students, guests, regulars and new Jazz Brunch attendees are invited to bring a snack and spend their lunch break listening to jazz.
