"Following Čiurlionis" - improvisations on the music of M.K.Čiurlionis
Jan Maksimovič - saxophone
Dmitrij Golovanov - piano
"After Čiurlionis" is a dedication of the Lithuanian Jazz Union to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The twelve-concert cycle "After Čiurlionis" will feature the interpretation and improvisation of Čiurlionis' music by the country's most famous jazz musicians - Jan Maksimovič (saxophone) and Dmitrij Golovanov (piano). These concerts will not only be a journey through the genius' work, but also a celebration of deep emotions and improvisation, presenting a cultural dialogue between classical and contemporary jazz music.
Celebrating the 150th anniversary of M. K. Čiurlionis' birth, his work continues to be a source of inspiration for many artists today. During the "Following Čiurlionis" concerts, jazz masters D. Golovanov and J. Maksimovičius invite the audience to experience not only Čiurlionis' music, but also a new interpretation of it, which they reveal using the language of improvisation and contemporary jazz.
This kind of music interpretation requires not only technical mastery, but also deep emotional responsibility, as Čiurlionis' works often convey subtle emotions and philosophical ideas. "Following Čiurlionis is a musical journey in which the musicians reject jazz stereotypes and use elements of Čiurlionis' creative language, such as harmony and motifs, to transform them into new forms. In this way, they preserve the original spirit of Čiurlionis' work while adapting it to the context of contemporary jazz and improvisation.
Project is financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
