The Lithuanian Jazz Union and Jazz Cellar 11 continue the "Meet the Pro" educational meetings with world-class performers.
On 7 February, we invite you to learn from London jazz star, double bassist and composer Jasper Høiby.
Since forming his first band in 2005, Copenhagen-born, London-based bassist Jasper Høiby has earned acclaim for his fresh and dynamic approach to jazz, combining complex compositions with spontaneous improvisation. Høiby's bass guitar sound is at the heart of his music and his discography includes many acclaimed albums. He has toured extensively around the world with bands such as Phronesis, Fellow Creatures and Planet B. His music transcends genres, combining a mix of contemporary jazz, European folk elements and innovative improvisation.
Jasper Høiby co-founded Phronesis. A band that shook up the European jazz market a decade ago and became one of the most acclaimed European jazz bands. Since 2010, Jasper Høiby has been the main artist of Edition Records, choosing this label as the exclusive home for his music. His list of collaborations includes some of the biggest names on the jazz scene, such as Tigran Hamasyan, Jason Lindner, Jeff Ballard, Shai Maestro, Mark Guiliana, Verneri Pohjola, Marius Neset, Django Bates, Sun Mi Hong, Miguel Zenón, Louis Cole, Makaya McCraven, Ben Lamar Gay, Wolfgang Muthspiel and Kit Downes. He has performed in jazz clubs, concert halls and festivals around the world and in 2012 won the Copenhagen Jazz Festival's Young Spirit Award alongside honorees Jack DeJohnette and Palle Mikkelborg.
